Dennis Covington

Dennis Covington is the author of two novels and four nonfiction books. His book Salvation on Sand Mountain was a National Book Award finalist, and his articles have been published in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times Magazine, Lapham’s Quarterly, VogueThe American Scholar, and many other periodicals. Over the years, he’s reported from a number of conflict zones, including the civil wars in El Salvador and Syria, and his work has been widely anthologized and translated into nine languages abroad. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Covington earned a BA from the University of Virginia and an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he studied under Raymond Carver. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing at Texas Tech University. His most recent book is Revelation: A Search for Faith in a Violent Religious World (Little, Brown, 2016).
